Travelling To Canada
⏱️ Approx Reading Time: mins
Ok, so this post is going to talk a bit about how Claudia and I came around to start planning our move to Canada and kick off a mini series of blog posts about our time and experience in Canada. This will be short and sweet...
How We Got Here
While we can't really remember where the idea actually came from, we agree it popped into existence about 8 years ago. We decided that we would aim for this but that it was a medium term goal. I wanted to complete my degree (and a masters), and Claudia wanted to gain some robust work experience. These were the goals which motivated us through the past 8 years and got us this point now, less than 3 weeks until we leave for Canada.
In this time I have completed and been awarded a BSc (Hons) degree in Natural and Environmental Science and a MSc in Environmental Management, and Claudia has progressed through the ranks in the environmental permitting sector, gaining tonnes of work experience to compliment her masters. We're set!
The Process
The process hasn't been too difficult as Canada is fairly open to immigration and has several schemes in which foreign nationals can enter and work in the country. We ended up going with the International Experience Canada scheme which affords us a 2-year work permit.
Rough Plan
We plan to spend some time in the Vancouver area of British Columbia, hopefully finding work and somewhere to stay. During this time we hope to explore all this this beautiful province has to offer.
I plan to share updates through here for future reference, but also to help those who might be going through the same process. As always, my email is at the bottom of every page, do get in touch if you have any questions.
A photograph I took of a printed photograph by Photographer Ottomar Anschütz (1891-1896) of Otto Lilienthal's Flight III. The photograph was hung on the wall in the elevator lobby of a hotel.
